Cal Ed Net Owner: Sandi Combs

Dr. Sandra Combs-President

Dr. Sandi Combs has 31 years experience in education, from kindergarten through college. First as a teacher, now as an administrator, her credentials and PhD in Educational Administration qualify her as an expert consultant. Her current educational experiences include being founder and Superintendent of the Yuba City Charter School; Special Education Teacher; and Chapman University Instructor in Secondary Teaching Strategies and Technology for Teachers. Her expertise in program design and implementation bring practical knowledge to the grant and curriculum writing process. Balancing staffing, budgeting, purchasing and client relations in addition to day to day troubleshooting make her a quality manager. Her innovation, creativity and boldness in program development have contributed to projects being launched, achieving funding and progressing to their successful progress and continuation or completion.

Dr. Combs began her college education at Yuba College in 1976. She continued with Chico State University, Glad Tidings Bible College, National University, Christian International University, Chapman University, Hayward State University, University of LaVerne and Capella University. She recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by completing a course at Harvard University. To say that Sandi enjoys school is an understatement.

In addition to an AA, ATh, BA, BTh, MA and PhD, she has earned credentials in multiple and single subject teaching, special education, CLAD and Administration.
Dr. Combs’ career in education began in 1979 with the Marysville Joint Unified School District After-School Program and has included public, non-public and private school education, as well as teaching English in Taiwan.

While working in the Sutter County Opportunity Program and at Brittan Elementary School District as Technology Coordinator, Dr. Combs began to research the possibility of opening a charter school. Her vision began to take shape in 1999 as she assembled a team with which to work. In spring of 1999 she resigned her then current position as Vice Principal at East Nicolas High School to pursue developing a charter school full time. In January of 2000 the Yuba City Unified School District approved the charter and Yuba City Charter School was born.  She became the Superintendent of YCCS and is also active as an advisor to other charter school operators or those wishing to start a charter school of their own. Dr. Combs has two children, Micah and Shari, both of whom graduated from Yuba City Charter School. Her current passion is riding her Harley whenever the sun is shining.
